Who comes out on top in Scotland? 

St Andrews University is top of the table again for 2024 with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde keeping their second, third and fourth spot.  

Aberdeen and Stirling climb one place, as does Edinburgh Napier, in at number ten. Heriot-Watt and Dundee each go down one place this year.

Studying in Scotland 

Wherever you end up studying in Scotland, there is lots to discover about this region, be it on the mainland or the many islands off the west and north coast. The incredible landscape is often captured in films and its stunning mountains, coast and lochs lend themselves to a wide range of outdoor activities. Famous for its whiskey which will help keep out the cold, there’s a wealth of arts and culture including the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival to keep you entertained while you study here.

University cities and towns in Scotland 

Glasgow and Edinburgh each host three of the universities in the region’s top 10 making these cities the biggest student hubs in the region. Edinburgh, known for its art galleries and many festivals, is a compact and easy city to get around. Glasgow also has a vibrant art scene and a wealth of great bars and cafes to socialize in. It’s one of the greenest cities in the UK with over 90 parks and green spaces.  

Further up on the East Coast is the seaside town of St Andrew’s known as the Home of Golf with its many courses. Dundee is on the same eastern side and is a vibrant city close to the sea. Aberdeen is further north and is a unique student city with the Northern Lights sometimes being seen there. Lastly, Stirling is worth considering if you fancy studying in a wee but lively city with lots of history.
