Course summary

On MA Ancient and Medieval History you will take a combination of:

  • Greek and Roman history courses from classics
  • medieval history courses from history

Together these will give you a well-rounded experience, bridging the ancient and medieval European and Mediterranean worlds.

In history and classics, we have particular expertise in the history of Late Antiquity, Byzantium and the early medieval west. This means the two subjects are well integrated.

How will I learn?

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and small group tutorials.

Some classes take you out of the classroom and into the local museums and libraries.

Teaching is often closely inspired by the cutting-edge research of our academic staff, especially at honours level.

You will acquire practical, intellectual and theoretical skills that are highly valued by employers. You will gain rigorous mental training in a range of disciplines. This enables you to demonstrate intellectual flexibility and the ability to adapt to new situations and to learn new skills.
